How to Add Sizes, Colours, and Other Options to a Product in WooCommerce

Modified on Thu, 15 May at 4:58 PM

Introduction In this guide, you’ll learn how to offer multiple options—like sizes and colors—for a single product in your WooCommerce store. We’ll use simple steps and everyday language so even beginners can follow along.

1. Log In to Your Website

  1. Open your browser and go to yourwebsite.com/wp-admin.

  2. Enter your Username and Password, then click Log In.

2. Go to the Products Section

  1. In the left menu, click Products.

  2. Click All Products, then find the product you want to add options to. Click Edit.
(Or click Add New to create a brand-new product.)

3. Change Product Type to "Variable"

  1. Scroll down to the Product Data box.

  2. Click the dropdown next to Simple product and choose Variable product.

4. Add Attributes for Sizes, Colors, etc.

  1. In the Product Data box, click the Attributes tab.

  2. From Custom product attribute, click Add.

  3. Enter a name (e.g., Size).

  4. In Value(s), type each option separated by a vertical bar (|), for example: Small | Medium | Large.

  5. Check Visible on the product page and Used for variations.

  6. Click Save attributes.

  7. Repeat to add other attributes, like Color, with values Red | Blue | Green.

Tip: If you plan to reuse the same options across many products, consider creating a Global Attribute under Products > Attributes first.

5. Create Variations

  1. Click the Variations tab next to Attributes.

  2. From the Add variation dropdown, select Create variations from all attributes, then click Go.

  3. Confirm the popup by clicking OK. WooCommerce will generate one variation for every combination (e.g., Small-Red, Small-Blue, Medium-Red, etc.).

6. Configure Each Variation

  1. In the Variations list, expand each variation by clicking the small arrow.

  2. For each variation, set:

    • Regular Price (required).

    • SKU (optional).

    • Stock Status or Stock Quantity.

    • Product Image specific to that variation (click the image placeholder).

  3. Click Save changes at the bottom of the Variations tab.

7. Publish or Update Your Product

  1. Once all variations are configured, review any other product details (description, categories, tags).

  2. In the right-hand column, click Publish (for new products) or Update (for existing products).

Congratulations! Your product now offers multiple sizes, colors, or other options. Customers will be able to choose their preferred combination directly on the product page. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
